Wellpappe Innovation Award: 1st and 3rd prize for Klingele
Klingele wins two Corrugated Cardboard Innovation Awards 2021
The Klingele Paper & Packaging Group, one of the leading independent manufacturers of corrugated base paper and corrugated board packaging, has won two awards at the 2021 Corrugated Board Innovation Awards organised by the German Corrugated Board Industry Association: Klingele took first place in the "Display" performance group with "1/4 pallet eco-display" from our Wunsiedel plant, a special sales display for Zarelo GmbH, a supplier of fireplace lighters. Third place in the promotional packaging performance group went to "Aromaglut - Weinstöcke zum Grillen" from our Grunbach plant, a creation for the start-up Aromaglut.
Promotional look - and recyclable too
The sales display for Zarelo is characterised by its sophisticated design, its high level of sustainability and its promotionally effective printing: A special technique involving perforation of the Wellpappe opens up a second level as a presentation surface. This creates an attractive stepped look that also saves material during the manufacturing process. The display can be set up in a few simple steps and without any tools.
The high-quality flexographic printing in combination with the top sign, which displays the contents in the "body", makes the display an eye-catcher at the point of sale. The top sign can be reprinted in digital print as required, for example as part of special promotions. The jury particularly praised the "coherent and harmonious overall picture that invites the consumer to reach for it". The display also combines its sales-promoting appearance and design with consistent sustainability: not only the display itself, but also the glued-on pallet feet are made of cardboard. A ready-made transport system with a pallet guide made of Wellpappe at the top and bottom also replaces the usual plastic strapping or stretch film - more environmental friendliness from production to transport to use at the point of sale is hardly possible. Once the items have been sold, the entire display can be easily disposed of in waste paper.
Eye-catching Aromaglut packaging
The sales packaging for the start-up Aromaglut, for which Klingele won third place, contains grapevines for barbecuing: In terms of size, it is based on the height of wine cartons and is very sophisticatedly printed in five colours plus varnish. This means that the packaging fits perfectly into the sales ambience of lifestyle products such as wine shops. "We are very proud that the interplay between packaging design, customer advice and machine technology works so well and that the outstanding cooperation between our team and the customer has been recognised in this way," comments Christian Hössle, Head of the Central Development Department at Klingele.
The 2021 Wellpappe Innovation Award was held purely virtually for the first time this year; three winners were honoured in each of four performance groups. The jury's criteria included economic aspects such as low process costs and ecological aspects such as recyclability. Creativity and originality, print quality and the "wow" factor at the point of sale were also taken into account for the sales-promoting packaging and displays.
