We have been producing corrugated base paper at our Weener location since 1958. Since 2008, the large energy requirements of the paper mill have been covered in a sensible and environmentally friendly manner by the Weener thermal refuse-derived fuel (RDF) power plant, which generates 80 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually and ensures a reliable energy supply for the neighbouring paper mill via short distances.
180,000 tonnes of substitute fuels, i.e. residual materials from the associated paper production as well as processed commercial and industrial waste with a high energy density, are converted into steam and electricity safely and with low emissions. The heat generated is fed into the paper mill in the form of process steam.

The RDF power plant replaces around 32 million cubic metres of natural gas and other fossil primary energy sources, as well as reducing our external electricity requirements by around 80 percent. We can now cover around 90 per cent of our local energy requirements (thermal and electrical) with the power plant. By continuously investing in the plant, we are providing energy in an increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly manner, thereby increasing our independence from fossil fuels and external electricity drawn from the grid.
