On 1 April 2021, Klingele took over the Société Guadeloupéenne de Carton Ondulé (SGCO) production site on the French island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean from International Paper Company.

Klingele acquires kraftliner factory in Brazil

2020

Klingele acquires the kraftliner paper mill in Nova Campina and a hydroelectric power plant in Catas Altas in the state of São Paolo from Klabin S. A., the largest producer of paper and packaging made from Corrugated cardboard in Brazil. Klingele is thus expanding its paper range to include virgin fibre papers.

100 years after the company was founded, Klingele is present for its customers with two paper mills, twelve corrugated cardboard plants, eight processing plants and one sheet feeder plant in Europe, Africa and Central America.

New umbrella brand "Klingele Paper & Packaging Group"

Brand relaunch

Since 12 December 2019, Klingele has been operating under the new umbrella brand "Klingele Paper & Packaging Group", which replaces the previous name "Klingele Papierwerke". The background to this is the Group's dynamic growth in Germany and abroad over decades, combined with numerous acquisitions and investments.

Acquisition on the British market

2019

Klingele acquires 50 per cent of the British company Onboard Corrugated Limited. Klingele is thus investing in the Group's first sheet feeder plant and further expanding its strategic partnerships abroad.

Acquisition of Ondunova

2018

Klingele takes over the Spanish Ondunova Group in its entirety, having already acquired a stake in the company in the early 1970s.

Investment in Cuba

2017

The Klingele Group is investing in the Cuban corrugated cardboard industry through its Spanish subsidiary Klingele Embalajes and will in future operate two corrugated cardboard plants and a folding carton plant in Havana.

Step towards Scandinavia

Klingele acquires a 26 per cent stake in the Scandinavian Peterson Group, which is the market leader in Norway and has a strong presence in Denmark and Sweden.

Blue Paper SAS

Expansion

Blue Paper SAS is founded in Strasbourg as a joint venture with VPK Packaging and converted into a factory for lightweight corrugated base paper.

Energy for the future

Klingele inaugurates "Weener Energie" - a power plant based on substitute fuels - at the location of its paper mill in Weener.

Processing plant Nijmegen

Foundation of Klingele Golfkarton

2000

Klingele founds Klingele Golfkarton C.V. in Elst in the province of Gelderland on the Dutch-German border. In 2019, the processing plant moves to Nijmegen.

Investment programme

2000

Klingele launches the largest expansion programme in the company's history. Around 400 million euros are invested in new machines, technologies and processes in the following years.

Third generation

1992

Following the death of Dr Werner Klingele, his son Dr Jan Klingele takes over the management of the Group.

Quantum leap

1980

The Weener paper mill puts a new paper machine into operation. This gives Klingele a leading technological position in the market for corrugated base paper.

Dr Brigitte Klingele joins the management team.
The family business achieves a nationwide presence in Germany.

Weener paper mill, 1961

New markets

1961

Klingele takes over the paper mill in Weener, East Frisia, in 1961. This marks the family company's entry into paper production. Klingele starts its expansion in Spain this year through significant company investments.

Klingele-Holfelder paper mill

Separation

1952

The two founding families, Klingele and Holfelder, go their separate ways in 1952. Grunbach becomes the parent plant of Klingele.
The Wiesloch plant remains in the possession of the Holfelder family.

Next generation

1947

After the death of company founder Alfred Klingele, his son Dr Werner Klingele takes over the management of the company.

Second plant

1936

The second plant is built in Grunbach near Stuttgart in 1936. Grunbach later becomes the Klingele Group's main plant.

Alfred Klingele and his brother-in-law Emil Holfelder found the Badische Wellpapierfabrik Klingele & Holfelder in Wiesloch near Heidelberg on 21 April 1920.
