Three focal points for sustainable success: packaging advice included!
Three examples of how we have helped our customer TechData: we are successful throughout Europe thanks to our European alliance Blue Box Partners, and together we implement packaging solutions from a single source at many European locations; we optimise the entire supply chain based on a 360-degree view; and we develop packaging processes all the way to automation. TechData was convinced.
From the outset, our collaboration with our customer TechData focused on three project phases with different priorities. A crucial factor for the European wholesale company of electrical and IT products was to provide the same level of services for all nine locations in Europe. Specifically, the first step was to implement our packaging in nine European countries. The second step is to optimise this on the basis of 360° consulting in order to develop a more efficient and profitable packaging portfolio. The final step will be to automate the process at all TechData locations at a later date. The process has been running for two years – and we can already draw a very positive interim conclusion.
Blue Box Partners: Implementation without borders
The implementation of product packaging has already been successfully realised at six locations, and the remaining three locations are now also close to completion, which is scheduled for this year. When it comes to the Europe-wide supply of stable and recyclable packaging solutions for TechData, Klingele naturally scores highly as a member of the Blue Box Partners. This once again demonstrates the great advantage of our reliable alliance: the four family-owned companies of Blue Box Partners with their 100 locations ensure the optimum supply of Wellpappe packaging at all times - in any quantity, in exactly the same excellent quality, from a single source throughout Europe. An alliance that benefits everyone involved and also makes a significant contribution to reducing traffic congestion by shortening delivery routes. For TechData, there is a single point of contact; as a Blue Box Partners alliance, we ensure delivery of the same quality in the shortest possible time at all times.
Experts with a 360° view and a sense of context
In the second step, optimisation will begin - to this end, TechData's individual locations will be examined with regard to their packaging portfolio and logistics. This step has already been taken at the site in Switzerland. There, as part of an all-round analysis on site: Too much different packaging generates too high costs. This is where the customer can make significant savings. Reducing the large number of packaging sizes was therefore a logical step: the original eleven variants were ultimately reduced to five packs, which offer maximum flexibility with height grooves - less is more. With this solution, we reduce the need for storage space for packaging, equalise the complexity of logistics and reduce costs through higher quantities.
Another approach to the optimisation process calls into question the shaft used to date. Even replacing the current double shaft with a single shaft has a major impact: material savings are in themselves an important contribution to sustainability and also reduce production and transport costs. The switch from kraftliner paper to testliner (and the associated use of recycled material) also harbours enormous potential in this application.
Much more than just packaging! With comprehensive experience and holistic advice, Klingele ensures that we can optimise and standardise our warehouses in all 9 countries.

The next goal in sight
As soon as implementation and optimisation have been completed at all nine locations, a further step is already in the pipeline, which will again focus on efficiency and profitability: packaging with a uniform basic format is planned, with only the height being variable. They form the basis for a height-reducing automation concept. The main advantage lies in the standardisation and thus the interchangeability of packaging material within TechData's various European locations. Initial talks have already been held with a corresponding machine manufacturer - so the course has been set to continue the successful process.
Customised and standardised: The main thing is optimised!
What sounds like a contradiction at first, we combine in a unique way to your advantage, because our solutions are always customised and tailored to the needs and requirements of our customers. Less is more: sometimes a smaller, cleverly utilised range of packaging is simply better than many different variants.
