New "short test" for packaging for Amazon sales
Klingele offers new services for guaranteed frustration-free packaging.
With its ‘Frustration Free Packaging’ (FFP) programme, Amazon raised the bar for the use of packaging in 2019 – and has now changed the regulations again. Since 1 June, new requirements have applied to packaging that does not contain anything fragile, anything liquid, any TV sets or monitors and does not weigh more than 22.7 kg – and here, too, we can support you with a new ‘quick test’.
The online trade has grown steadily in recent years and has now received another strong boost during the coronavirus pandemic: according to Statista.com sales in B2C e-commerce in Germany amounted to 72.8 billion euros, a growth rate of around 23 per cent. Amazon played a significant role in this and is now the most important sales channel for many retailers. Two years ago, the internet giant introduced new guidelines with its FFP (Frustration-Free Packaging) programme. established new guidelines programme, at the centre of which was a mandatory APASS test carried out by an ISTA-certified laboratory. Since 1 June, retailers and manufacturers of some product groups have been able to test their packaging themselves for compliance with FFP requirements before they are sold on Amazon.
Retailers who ship toys and textiles, for example, no longer have to have their packaging tested for FFP compliance by an ISTA-certified laboratory - they can now carry out the test, complete the form and communicate with Amazon themselves. In principle, this self-testing option applies to packaging contents that do not contain fragile or liquid objects, TV sets or monitors and weigh up to 22.7 kg.
New testing process - we test for you
And here comes our new "short test" comes into play: We now offer our new "short test" to retailers or manufacturers who want to ship products that do not have to be shipped in ISTA-certified packaging: The centrepiece is a drop test, which we carry out for you including a test report and photographic documentation. The short test is cheaper than the more complex Amazon packaging test according to ISTA-6 - and if you then purchase your packaging from us, the costs can be offset against the packaging price.
Your advantage: If your packaging does not survive the drop test undamaged, we can react immediately, suggest a more suitable type of corrugated cardboard or optimise the packaging in accordance with the APASS guidelines. This saves you time, money and nerves in having to precisely reproduce the test conditions, carry out and document the tests yourself and fill out the English forms. We also advise you on incentives: these are incentives for Amazon retailers to downsize their packaging, reduce empty spaces and certify the packaging for the next higher standard (i.e. as Tier 1 packaging that fulfils all FFP requirements or as Tier 2 packaging with ship-in-own-container (SIOC) certification).
Testing process for the pretest in an ISTA-certified laboratory
As a certified member of the APASS network, we offer our customers the opportunity to carry out preliminary tests on their packaging in order to examine its "Amazon suitability". These include the original ISTA-6A drop test and a static BCT test, which allows us to assess whether the ISTA-6 vibration test is passed.
A service that saves you nerves, time and ultimately money - because if you only find out from the laboratory after a long wait that your packaging is not Amazon-compliant, you start thinking about alternatives for the existing packaging all over again.
We are happy to support you in this process:
