Data is an important resource for companies, not only for generating knowledge but also for making informed decisions. With this in mind, the Klingele Paper & Packaging Group, one of the leading independent manufacturers of corrugated base paper and corrugated packaging, is establishing a new data culture within the company with its ‘DeltaMaster’ key performance indicator system from Bissantz & Company GmbH. ‘DeltaMaster’ offers Klingele a comprehensive insight into operational developments in all areas of the company and efficient control options – in a user-friendly way and with little effort. Klingele won the BARC Best Practice Award for Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics in the medium-sized business category for this system. Britta Trauernicht, Head of Controlling and Energy Management at Klingele, accepted the award at the Big Data & AI World conference in Frankfurt. The BARC Award honours project teams that have developed a data and analytics initiative that has been highly beneficial to their company.

Flexible analyses - automated reporting

Increasingly volatile markets, as well as international expansion in recent years, require Klingele to make decisions and control mechanisms based on up-to-date data. Against this backdrop, the aim was to introduce a group-wide, standardised key performance indicator system using a modern business intelligence system and thus replace existing Excel applications. "DeltaMaster" links current data from SAP HANA, including from financial accounting, sales, production and other sources.

It processes the figures in a user-friendly and needs-based way for self-service applications and visualises them in an appealing and easy-to-understand way. All figures can be broken down to the smallest unit for analyses on a wide range of issues; deviations from the plan can be identified at a glance. The database and system of key figures are standardised for all plants, so that all users have the same basis for decision-making. The solution's high degree of automation enables rapid data integration and provision, helps to avoid errors and supports reliable reporting.

"Democratising" knowledge - breaking down silos

For Klingele, the "DeltaMaster" represents the start of a new data culture: intuitive use in self-service mode enables employees to independently gain insights based on the latest data. This also enables the specialist departments to make well-founded decisions and react more quickly to new developments. In addition, the 360° view of the data also supports the breaking down of silos and collaboration between departments. This not only promotes the transfer of knowledge, but also expands the teams' competences and understanding of interrelationships within the company. DeltaMaster also establishes a close link between the analytical and operational view and supports the company's strategic planning. The solution is therefore set to become the main management tool at Klingele in the future - initially in Germany, but also internationally in the future.

"We are delighted to receive this award from BARC," comments Dr Jan Klingele, Managing Director of the company. "Because it shows us that we are competitively positioned in terms of data-driven corporate management and that we use modern technologies efficiently and in line with the times. With "DeltaMaster", we will significantly increase transparency in our company and our planning expertise. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank the team that has driven the development and implementation of the solution at our company."

About the BARC Best Practice Award

Every year since 2005, the independent analyst firm BARC has presented the Best Practice Award for Business Intelligence and Analytics to software projects that have stood out for their economic benefits and exemplary methods and procedures during implementation. The evaluation criteria are the technology used, the content concept, a recognisable user orientation, the cost-benefit ratio and innovations created. The applications must clearly demonstrate why the respective business intelligence project was able to achieve a high business benefit and what quantifiable and qualitative results have been achieved. The final round and award ceremony for the BARC Award 2021 took place on 11 May 2022 as part of Big Data & AI World in Frankfurt am Main.
