Remshalden, 18 May 2021 – Klingele Paper & Packaging Group, one of the leading independent manufacturers of corrugated base paper and corrugated cardboard packaging, has been awarded two prizes at the 2021 Innovation Award Corrugated Board organised by the Verband der Wellpappenindustrie e. V. (Association of the Corrugated Board Industry). First place in the “Display” performance group went to Klingele for the “1/4 palett eco display system” from our Wunsiedel plant, a special sales display designed for Zarelo GmbH, a supplier of fireplace lighters. Third place in the “Sales-Promoting Packaging” performance group was awarded to the “Aromaglut – vines for barbecuing” model from our Grunbach plant, a creation for the start-up Aromaglut.
Sales-promoting aesthetics – 100% recyclable
The sales display for Zarelo is distinguished by its sophisticated design, high degree of sustainability and attractive print – a special technique that perforates the corrugated cardboard opens up a second level as a presentation surface. This creates an attractive stepped look that also saves material in the manufacturing process. The display can be assembled in just a few steps without any tools.
The high-quality flexo printing, coupled with the upper sign which reflects the content in the “body”, makes the display a guaranteed eye-catcher at the point of sale. If required, the upper sign can be reprinted in digital print, e.g. for other special promotions. The jury was particularly impressed by the “coherent and harmonious overall image that really encourages the consumer to grab a product.”
The display also unites its sales-promoting design and aesthetics with consistent sustainability – not just the display itself, but also the affixed pallet feet are made of cardboard. A ready-made transport system with pallet guide made of corrugated cardboard at the top and bottom also replaces the usual plastic straps or shrink film, ensuring maximum environmental friendliness all the way from production to use at the point of sale. After the articles have been sold, the complete display can simply be disposed of as waste paper.
Aromaglut packaging The sales packaging for the Aromaglut start-up, for which Klingele was awarded third prize, contains vines for barbecuing. In terms of size, it is based on the height of boxed wine and features a sophisticated five-colour print plus varnish. This makes the packaging the perfect fit for sales environments for lifestyle products, such as wine shops.
“We are very proud that the interplay between packaging design, customer advice and machine technology works so well and that the outstanding cooperation between our team and the customer is also honoured in this way," comments Christian Hössle, Head of the Central Development Department at Klingele.
The 2021 Innovation Award Corrugated Board was the first edition of the event to be held completely virtually; three prize winners were distinguished in each performance group. The jury’s criteria included aspects of cost-effectiveness such as low process costs as well as ecological considerations like recyclability. Creativity, originality, print quality and the “wow” factor also played a role when it came to judging sales-promoting packaging and displays.
