“Golden Wave” innovation award

Innovative display combined with cost efficiency, easy handling and advertising effectiveness

Remshalden/Stuttgart, May 2012 – Every two years, the Verband der Wellpappen-Industrie (VDW), a corrugated cardboard manufacturing association in Germany, issues an award for outstanding innovation in the industry. This year, the Klingele group was awarded with the third place in the Merchandising category for a newly developed display for plants and flowers. The jury acknowledged its exemplary implementation of all customer requirements. The single-piece display received particularly positive evaluations for its resource-saving production, Flexo-process printing with water-soluble inks and simple recycling.

 

Klingele had developed the display for a gardening business. This company sells its products on the retail market and therefore requires packaging that offers easy handling and trouble-free disposal. At the same time, it must present fresh products attractively. The customer had previously used wooden displays that were to be replaced by a corrugated board equivalent.

 

Economical production and simple recycling

Klingele’s display met the customer’s requirements perfectly and fully used the advantages of corrugated board over wood. The new display is modularly designed for Euro pallets and is designed for single-use plastic trays for the flowerpots. The display uses 6x8 trays. The displays are made in one piece and can be economically produced in a single process on the inline machine. They allow space-saving delivery and storage, which represents a clear financial advantage for the customer. Furthermore, after the goods are sold, the retailer can easily dispose of the packaging — a convincing argument for corrugated board.

Easy sales and effective advertising print

Besides the practical advantages, the new display offers decisive benefits at the point of sale: The flowerpots can be removed from all four sides, allowing the salesperson to provide easier service. Effective advertising print additionally increases marketing impact, which was also one of the customer’s central requirements. “We’re very pleased to be honoured with the ‘Golden Wave’ award and to see full confirmation for our strategy of using innovation to provide customers with added value for their businesses,” says Dr Jan Klingele, CEO of the Klingele group. “The competition has impressively demonstrated many advantages of corrugated board.
